So sleep seems to be a distant memory for us(especially me!). I tend to average a broken 4 hours of sleep per night and can still function throughout the day but crash around 6pm when Steve is home.
Liam turned 1 month old on September 28th...just in time to celebrate a birthday with our dog, Piper, who turned 6 years old. She is also doubling as Liam's bodyguard!
Breastfeeding is seemingly so much easier than a few weeks ago, despite both of us suffering through what seems to be a neverending bout with Thrush.
Thrush is a common yeast infection that can be passed between the mother and the baby during breastfeeding. The yeast (called Candida albicans) thrives in warm, moist areas.The baby's mouth and the mother's nipples are perfect places for this yeast to grow. A yeast infection can be difficult to cure, but fortunately this is uncommon. Yeast infections frequently occur during or after antibiotic treatments.
Symptoms of yeast infection in the mother are deep-pink nipples that are tender or uncomfortable during and immediately after nursing. Symptoms of thrush (an oral yeast infection) in the baby include white patches and increased redness in the baby's mouth.The baby may also have a diaper rash, a change in mood, and will want to
suckle more frequently.
At our most recent doctor's appointment, Liam weighed in at a healthy 10 lbs, 3oz so we definately know he's eating and growing very well. His legs are strong and solid, eyes are bright and alert...he really seems to take in his surroundings now. He's such a joy to watch grow and change each day...I'm glad we're recording his growth...otherwise it would just pass us by too quickly!
